Casey Sloper is Superintendent Operations – Train Control at Rio Tinto, where she leads the safe operation of the world’s first autonomous heavy haul railway. Her team supports the movement of more than a million tonnes of iron ore each day across 2000 kms of complex, high-performing rail network.
Casey has spent over 13 years in rail, starting on the ground before becoming a train driver prior to the introduction of AutoHaul, and later moving into leadership. That journey still shapes how she thinks about safety, operations and people today.
She is passionate about supporting frontline teams and creating the conditions for them to do their best work. Casey focuses on building systems and processes that reflect the realities of day-to-day operations, and brings a practical, down-to-earth perspective on leading through change in complex environments.
In 2026, Casey’s achievements were celebrated by industry when she won the Inspirational Woman in Heavy Haul award at the Rail Heavy Haul Conference.
